About Us
Our History
Nia Imani Family was founded in 1994 by Belinda Pittman with a vision to create a safe, supportive home for women and children navigating major life transitions. From its beginning, the organization has existed to provide more than housing—it exists to restore stability, dignity, and hope.
Over the decades, Nia Imani Family has continued to grow and evolve to meet the real needs of the women it serves. Today, it remains the sole transitional housing facility of its type in this area, offering long-term, structured support specifically designed to help women and their children move from crisis to lasting stability.
Our Mission
Nia Imani Family exists to support women and their children as they move from crisis to stability—and ultimately to thriving—by providing safe housing, intentional programming, and holistic support that builds self-sufficiency, accountability, and lasting change.
We believe housing is the foundation—but growth, healing, discipline, and economic stability are what make success sustainable.
Who We Are
Our Values
Nia Imani Family is grounded in Afrocentric values and guided by principles that honor culture, responsibility, and collective care. These values shape how we live together, how we support one another, and how progress is measured.
At the core of our work are these beliefs:
- Dignity: Every woman deserves respect, regardless of her past or current circumstances
- Accountability: Growth is demonstrated through daily actions, not intentions alone
- Consistency: Sustainable change happens through steady effort over time
- Community: We thrive together by honoring shared expectations and mutual responsibility
- Purpose: Each woman has inherent value and the capacity to build a meaningful life
Structure as Care: Clear expectations and boundaries are expressions of support, not punishment
What Makes Us Different
Nia Imani Family is not a shelter. It is a transitional living program intentionally designed for long-term success.
This means:
- Progress is phase-based, not time-based
- Advancement is earned through observable behavior, not promises
- Support is paired with clear expectations
- Comfort is not the goal—growth is
You are not rushed here. You are also not passive. This program is designed for women who are willing to participate actively in their own transformation.
