Nia Imani Family, Inc. is Milwaukee’s only long-term transitional housing center (up to 24 months) for women and their children.

Women Who Live at Nia Imani Family, Inc. must commit to the following:
  • Maintain a drug and alcohol-free home
  • Work toward reuniting with their children, as appropriate
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the building
  • Participate in educational and vocational training
  • Take part in Nia Imani Family support programs
  • Pay monthly program fees as they are able
  • Learn self-care, responsibility and money management
  • Develop short and long-term goals for themselves and their families
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment

Program participants, with staff, set personal, professional and education goals for themselves and their children. Each woman utilizes programs and support services based on her individual needs and goals. Their progress is evaluated every 90 days using a tool developed by social researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Developmental Compass measures a woman’s progress in eight key areas.
